The Rebounders Competitive Gymnastics Team was started in 1972 by Jean Weber and Mel Sanborn at the Towson YMCA. In the Fall of 1975, Rebounders Gymnastics Training Center relocated to Foxtail Road, becoming the first independent gymnastics club in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. In January 1996, Rebounders moved into the new larger facility on Aylesbury Road in Timonium, Maryland. Just a few years later, Rebounders expanded its current location to over 16,000 sq. feet to better serve the needs of the gymnastics community for classes and 4 competitive teams. In June of 2007, Jean Weber retired and the Rebounders Gymnastics Legacy was carried forward by new owners Lori Stark and Heidi Soerensen, both long-term Rebounders employees for over 20 years each. Classes are offered year round for ages sixteen (16) months through adults.
The club's accomplishments have been numerous. Our USAG Girls Teams compete Levels THree (3)through Ten (10), and Elite under USA Gymnastics at State, Regional, and National meets. The team has traveled extensively throughout the Unites States and abroad, including Canada, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Bahamas, Australia, and Ireland and hosted international teams at home. The USAG Girls team annually hosts the Black-Eyed Susan Invitational, Evergreen Invitational, as well as hosting National Competitions.
In 1983 Mel Sanborn started the Rebounders USAG Boys Team. The boy's team competed locally and regionally until 1992 when the team was disbanded. A small group of boys continued to train and compete locally in the Tumbling/Acro leagues. In the Fall of 1996, the Rebounders boys team was revived by Scot Shaffer and continued to grow in number and skill over the next 4 years to include competitors from Class VII through Class III. The boys team members have competed at local, state, regional, and national meets and traveled to New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Colorado, and California. The Rebounders boys team also competes under USA Gymnastics levels 4 through 10 and has consistently sent members to Nationals since 2000. The Boys Team also hosts an annual Designated Qualifying Meet for all Maryland competitors.
In 1999 Rebounders started our Girls Mason Dixon League Team. The Girls compete levels A through E and continue to excel, consistently placing as teams and individuals at Championships each year.
In 2004 Mark Holt started the Rebounders Rebels All Star Cheerleading Team.
All of the Rebounders Gymnastics Teams and Cheer Teams have achieved excellence and recognition at the State, Regional, National, and International levels thanks to the dedication and hard work by the gymnasts, coaches, and parents.
Rebounders also annually hosts the Winter Classic and Spring Fling Meets for the Recreational Gymnasts.
